Bingo Game History

Bingo takes its form from early lottery style games, the earliest being an Italian lottery almost 500 years ago. Since then the game has evolved, there was "Le Lotto" in France and "Beano" in America. It was when it hit America that it gradually turned into the bingo game that we know today.

Among other names bingo was the one that took off. In Australia it was known as "Housie". Whatever it is called in your language there are a few basic rules and variations of a bingo game.

The main varieties of bingo are 90 Ball and 75 Ball. In essence you have a bingo card with a set amount of random numbers (between 1 and 90, or 1 and 75). Next, numbered balls (between 1 and 90, or 1 and 75) are withdrawn randomly from a bingo "hopper". If the number on the bingo ball matches a number on your bingo card you mark it off. Once all numbers on your card are marked off you call "Bingo" or "House". The first to shout "Bingo" or "House" is the winner.
